Youth mediation

Mediation in youth protection deals with situations involving children whose safety and development have been compromised, and for whom protective measures are required.

It is a process whereby an impartial mediator helps the participants (parents, child, child’s attorney and DPJ intervener) to work together to reach an agreement aimed at putting an end to the reasons for the compromise.

This confidential approach fosters dialogue, mutual understanding and the search for solutions based on individual needs. Offered for eligible cases, youth protection mediation makes it possible to reach an agreement on voluntary or legal measures, in the best interests of the child and with respect for his or her rights.

Be ready
for your consultation

The mediator will call on each participant before the first mediation session to ascertain his or her willingness to engage in this process and to answer any questions.

In preparation for the first meeting, participants will be able to reflect on their child's needs as well as their own, and on possible solutions for ending the DYP's intervention in their lives.
